Carpet & Upholstery Cleaning

No one likes to have unsightly stains on their carpet or upholstery. Unfortunately stains on a carpet or fabric couch or chair are inevitable, especially in high traffic areas or homes with young children. Perhaps you are getting ready for a house full of guests and want a quick and easy way to rid your carpet and upholstery of those stains but you don't have a time to rent a carpet steamer. There are a few quick tips to easily dissolving most stains that take little to no time at all.

Buy a good cleaner such as Oxyclean, Mr. Clean or even a store brand of carpet and upholstery cleaner. With your cleaner, generously spray the stain and let it sit for a few moments. Using warm water and a clean white rag begin patting the stain clean. You want to pat instead of scrub because scrubbing can lead to spreading the stain and making it worse. Once you have absorbed most of the stain you can then scrub vigorously at the remains and it should slowly fade.

For spills such as juice of soda, immediately take salt to the stain. Regular household salt used for food can be applied to the spill. The salt acts as an absorbent to soak up the liquid. Once you have let the salt sit for a few moments you can take a paper towel and wipe up the salt. After doing this take warm water and a little bit of soap to the area to make sure all of the reside is gone.

Another good tip is to use vinegar as a cleaner. While this might not smell the best, it is known to have a chemical reaction with stains, breaking them up and dissolving them. You can then go over the spot with a small amount of soap and warm water in order to make it smell fresh and clean again.

Perhaps you have a child that decided to turn your favorite upholstered chair into a work of art. Don't fret. Instead, scrap up the bits of crayon with a dull knife or other dull object. You then take soap and any other lubricant used for a car such as WD-40 to the stain. Using a toothbrush, work the mixture in a circular motion in order to dissolve the crayon. Go back over the stain with a mild cleanser in order to remove any of the smell left behind from the lubricant. With these tips you can easily solve stains in your carpet and upholstery within a matter of minutes while saving time and money from renting a cleaner.
